Cordova District Fishermen United (CDFU) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting and perpetuating the commercial fishery in Area E.

CDFU has a board of 14 experienced commercial fishing permit holders in 5 seperate divisions: Gillnet, Groundfish, Seine, Setnet and Pound. CDFU is governed by organizational bylaws, which determine eligibility for Board membership. Board seats are staggered, and any Prince William Sound commercial fishery permit holder can run for a seat in the division in which they hold a permit.

In 2008, there are 3 general board , 1 seine, 2 gillnet, and 2 pound seats open. If you wish to nominate yourself or someone else for a seat on the CDFU Board, your nomination form must be recieved to the CDFU office by August 1, 2008.

CDFU’s structure is divisional, enabling each gear group to deal with gear-specific and allocative issues without comprising the function of the entire organization to address issues relevant to all commercial fishermen. It is important to note that CDFU, as an organization, does not take positions on gear-group allocations, but rather leaves that to each specific division.

CDFU is a 501(c) 5 Non-Profit organization, and as such is able to partake in political lobbying activities. In 2007, CDFU formed a FishPAC to raise funds to be used for making political contributions to candidates running in State elections. You can help give our fishery a strong voice in Alaska's political arena by making a contribution today.

Each year, CDFU runs several programs to help connect Prince William Sound's commercial fishery with our local communities.CDFU organizes a special event each June to ensure that the senior members of our community have access to Copper River sockeye salmon. Held on Main Street, dedicated volunteers, including past CDFU Board members, lend a hand to fillet, clean and bag salmon that is donated to the cause by our generous fishermen. This salmon is then hand delivered to senior residences across the community. In September, CDFU holds the Fish Prom Scholarship Fundraiser Dinner and Silent Auction to raise funds for student scholarships. Awards are available to members of CDFU and/or their familiy, and any graduates of Cordova High School seeking higher education.
